Come and celebrate the New year's day in our beautiful city! Every year Catania organizes a great party right in the Cathedral Square, close to our home, with every kind of entertainment, open-doors disco, theatrical representations and fireworks. With the New year's sunset you can also admire then the enchanting landscape from the highest European volcano: the Etna. A generous, majestic volcano. With its threatening huge frame, it is both beloved and mistrusted.

The party is the most important religious event for the inhabitans of Catania who take part to it with a great religious devotion, following the procession of the "Vara" (which contains the body of the Saint), through various routes along the main streets of the city from the third to the fifth of February. The program of the celebrations develops anyway in the first two weeks of the month. The religious aspect of the party combines with the edonistic one: the procession.

The province of Catania during the Holy Week and at Easter organizes a series of interesting events from a cultural and folkloristic point of view.
